Whilst there is currently a sense of excitement in the air – thanks in part to Gareth and the England boys - about normality resuming (in some form or another!) soon, one thing that is looking likely is that for many of us, holidays this year will mean staying closer to home. Fancy yourself as a movie extra?
Whether you see yourself as member of the 1900’s urban gangsters The Peaky Blinders, or perhaps more of a classic British detective like Morse or Lewis – England is home to a range of fantastic filming locations that will have you feeling as though you’re the lead part in a TV drama or film ready to hit the screens at any point – and we have the style to match!
For those Harry Potter fans out there, a trip to Alnwick Castle in Northumberland will take you back to the 2001 film ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ where various sections of the magical movie were filmed. Perhaps a top pick for the detective fans amongst us, Oxford is a key location for detective series’ such as Inspector Morse, Endeavour and Lewis (just to name a few!). Or perhaps you want to take a trip further down South to The Fat Duck in Berkshire, home to the innovative dish creations of celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal. Having been awarded 3 Michelin Stars, Best Restaurant in the World and Best Restaurant in the UK, it is definitely another one to consider!
If a city dining experience is more your style, Roots in the City of York is a new entry in the UK Michelin Guide, having been awarded its first Michelin Star in 2021. York is a fantastically historic city founded by the Ancient Romans that boasts the 13th Century Gothic Cathedral, York Minster – as well as numerous exciting shops and other eateries to explore.
